2020 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet
The Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is set to hold its annual awards banquet.
The event will bring a recognizable keynote speaker who acknowledges the issues that are facing the community.
Cocktails start at 5:30 pm with dinner at 6:30 all at the Embassy Suites Hotel 550 South Bucahannan in the Yellow Rose Room.
The speaker tonight will be Roy Bara who started his restaurant “La Fiesta Grande” in 1983.
Roy opened the doors to his first restaurant “La Fiesta Grande” in Amarillo in 1983 and his second location in 1987. He specializes in Fine Mexican cuisine from Tex-Mex to authentic Mexican Food as well as gourmet food. His company also owns La Fiesta Grande Catering and Caterings by Roy. La Fiesta Grande has been awarded Top Small Business of the Year by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce in 2002, 2006, and in 2007; Top Hispanic Business of the Year by the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 1988, 2001, 2003, and 2004; and the Torch Award for Market Place Ethics by the Better Business Bureau in 2009.
Roy is past President of the Panhandle Restaurant Association (Local Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association) and currently serves on the Board of Directors. In 2006, Roy was recognized as one of 7 Outstanding Restaurateurs in the state of Texas by the Texas Restaurant Association at the Annual Convention in Houston.
Roy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Restaurant Association and is also serving as a Trustee for their Political Action Committee. Roy also serves as a Trustee for the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation. Roy has served on the Board of Directors, Executive Board for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and as Chairman of the Board. Roy also serves on the Board of the Amarillo Area Foundation, Executive Board and as Chairman in 2019 and will serve as Chairman of the Harrington Foundation in 2020.
Roy also served on the Board of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation for several years and as vice-chair his last year. Roy also served on the Board of the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce from 2001 until 2007, and currently serves on the Advisory Board.
Roy is also past President of Amarillo Opera and has served on the Executive Board for the Amarillo Symphony.
