AISD Conserving Energy During Triple-Digit Temps
The Amarillo Independent School District began doing its part to conserve electricity during this week of triple-digit high temperatures.
On Tuesday, the district sent letters home with students to inform them it will do its part to be good stewards of energy and cut back on electricity use.
While the request by Xcel Energy to curb usage of electricity has expired, the AISD will continue to cut back.
It is limiting electricity usage in all appropriate district buildings, including using natural light where possible, and shutting AC units down on all campuses each afternoon at 4.
After school programs have been canceled for the week, the exception being Extended School Day and select UIL activities. Extended School Day programs will be moved to elementary cafeterias where the air conditioning will remain on until 6 p.m.
The district will operate on this schedule until the end of the week.
