Amarillo Juneteenth Parade
The public is invited to a kid’s pool party and community parade this weekend to celebrate Juneteenth.
The kid’s pool party is June 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at Thompson Park Pool. Event organizers say the first 250 kids get in for free and lunch is provided.
Celebrations continue on June 15 with a parade & park bash.
If you want to participate in the parade, organizers say to show up from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at 9th and Hayden Street. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and travel to Bones Hook’s Park, 2000 N Hughes St.
David Mccoy Lovejoy, program director of KGNC, Alpha Media, says some people think this is strictly about black and white and it’s truly not. It’s about people and coming together, understanding each other’s culture, sharing in and being a part of.
Organizers say there will be food, vendors, resources, games, live entertainment, and a free throw competition.
The Amarillo Police Department, civic groups and social groups will be in attendance.
The organizers say the parade is free and everyone is welcome to join in on the fun,
