(Austin, TX) — Texas is putting an end to vehicle safety inspections as of January 1st. A state law passed in 2023 lifts the requirement for noncommercial vehicles to undergo inspections of their brakes, tires, headlights, taillights, turn signals, and other systems. An Inspection Program Replacement Fee of seven-50 will be added to the registration fee paid to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Emissions tests will still be required in the counties surrounding Austin, Houston, DFW, and El Paso. San Antonio will be added to the list in 2026. (Metro News)
