Community leaders and business owners are taking the lead in handling the current childcare crisis and how it impacts local businesses.

The Amarillo Area Foundation  held a meeting Wednesday with the two groups, helping them to work together to find innovative and new childcare  solutions supporting families and the workforce

In the Panhandle and the U.S. finding high-quality childcare is made worse by a shortage of workers.

Low wages and extremely poor working conditions strongly drive the problem.

The workforce suffers because a lack of childcare leads to employee absenteeism decreased productivity, and higher stress levels.

Vice president of the Amarillo Area Foundation., Karalee Clay says there will be more meetings, training on how to advocate, and training on ways to be more family-friendly in the workplace,
