Game wardens and park rangers are increasing staff during the Fourth of July weekend due to an influx of visitors to our area lakes.

The staffing in the region and national parks will be increased during the holiday weekend to ensure the safety of visitors at places like Lake Meredith and Greenbelt.

Game wardens say there is usually an increase in alcohol and water safety-related crimes during the Fourth of July.

Potter County Game Warden Ryan Hunter says, plan for a designated driver on the boat just the same as you would a vehicle on the roadway and monitor your alcohol

Fireworks are also completely prohibited inside national parks to help protect campers and the wildlife that call the parks home

Wardens and rangers ask visitors and residents to be patient and aware while celebrating on and off the water.
