Lake Meredith Park officials are giving out warnings about fire safety on park grounds.

The use of in-ground fire pits at the park due to the instability of these pits along with the dry, windy environment is prohibited. The park’s grasslands are also extremely receptive to fire.

Fire pits are spread out all over the park at camping sites. Campers can also bring an above-ground fire pit during times when there is not a burn ban.

Lake Meredith officials say to never leave any kind of fire unsupervised, and to properly extinguish fires when not in use to continue protecting national parks.
