Lift Station #4 Suffers Sanitary Sewer Overflow Saturday

According to a press release sent by the City of Amarillo Monday afternoon, a sanitary sewer overflow over the weekend at Lift Station #4 located at 920 North Louisiana Street has been contained. The event began around 6 Saturday morning, and was contained by noon. 

The release notes the overflow was caused by a mechanical failure brought about by the recent heavy rains. The overflow allowed an estimated 200 thousand gallons of untreated sewage to flow onto dry land and nearby bar ditch, but did not reach natural waters. 

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified and is working with the City to minimize environmental impacts.
