A Dumas man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison by a Moore County jury.

Richard Vance Santana was sentenced for burglary of a habitation, resulting from  a break-in at the apartment of a Dumas woman, whom Santana intended to assault. That threat was thwarted when the woman’s roommate came home unexpectedly.

She found Santana with a knife in his hand and her roommate in torn clothing.

The roommate was able to ID Santana as a co-worker.

Due to his prior prison stints, Santana was considered a habitual offender by the State. Because he was found with a knife – considered a deadly weapon – Santana will serve at least 24-and-a-half years of his sentence before his first parole eligibility.
