Panhandle 1st Responders Remembering and Honoring 9/11
The Texas Panhandle will once again take a moment to remember those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.
First responders from across the area will gather at 8:45 a.m. at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, located at 4101 S. Georgia Street, on Wednesday for a 30-minute ceremony to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks at the World Trade Center and the United States Pentagon.
343 firefighters with the New York City Fire Department, 37 police officers with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department and 23 officers with the New York Police Department also died while responding to the attacks.
Local first responder agencies participating in the ceremony include the Amarillo Fire Department Pipes & Drums, Amarillo Police Department’s Rifle Team and honor guards from The Potter and Randall County Sheriff’s Office AFD and APD.
