The Polk Street Streetscape is almost done.

The $4.6 million project covers the areas of Polk Street from 2nd Avenue to 10th Avenue. Beth Duke, executive director at Center City of Amarillo, says, the funding came through a bond election in 2016 when the voters approved a bond election for this particular project and that money could only be used for this project and now we’re about to see it come to completion,

Polk Street is in the heart of the city’s historic district and has sidewalks in disrepair  and could be made American With Disabilities Act accessible.

Improvements being made include bike racks, lighting, benches and more.

Construction, in progress now at 7th to 8th Avenue,  is estimated to be complete by October 2024.
