Replacement Water Meters
The City of Amarillo is currently in phase 2 of replacing water meters throughout the city to upgrade to digital meters.
City officials say about 22 percent of the system has been replaced, and they’re on track to be complete next year.
The meters will provide the highest level of accuracy for water conservation and customer service. Customers will have access to additional water use data as the project progresses.
City officials say “Right now we have manual readings where snow, thunderstorms, and rain can prevent us from reading meters, and in that system, we’ve had estimated meter readings that won’t occur anymore.
The project is a $29.5 million loan at zero percent interest with a $1 million loan forgiveness by the Texas Water Development Board.
Expected completion by December 2025.
