Scammers Calling Posing as Xcell Energy

The Better Business Bureau has received several calls from companies stating that they have gotten phone calls from someone claiming to be from Xcel Energy.
The caller claims that the business bill is past due and threatens to turn off their electricity if they do not pay right away.
Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy says that customers who are behind on their bills will always receive a written notice in the mail before the power is shut off.
If a customer gets a suspicious call like this they should call Xcell Energy immediately at 1-800-895-4999.
The scammers have gone so far as to spoof the utility company’s phone number on caller ID.
When receiving a call like this it is always best to check and not pay over the phone.
