One person was killed in a fire late Thursday afternoon.

Amarillo police were called to a home located on South Austin Street when they noticed the fire. Fire crews were then notified.

APD reports an officer attempted entry to the home, but was not able to do so. Shortly thereafter, fire crews were able to remove the victim from the home and moved the person to the yard where EMS took over.

Officials say one person was pronounced dead at the scene around 6 p.m. A dog was saved.

That fire is under investigation, and victim identification pending notification of the next of kin.
