(Frisco, TX) — Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a radio interview there is no deadline forthcoming for signing holdout Ezekiel Elliott to an extension. The Pro Bowl running back has missed five weeks while in a contract dispute. Jones took a positive spin, saying if Elliott sits out early regular season games that he would be fresh for the playoffs, which “would be great.” He said Elliott’s off-the-field gaffes, including a six-game NFL suspension in 2017, are not a factor in the negotiations. “I’m very comfortable with everything off the field for Zeke,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will conclude preseason play tonight against the LA Rams at NRG Stadium. Backups fighting to make the 53-man roster will see the lion’s share of the action. The primary goal is to stay healthy. Houston lost Pro Bowl running back Lamar Miller for the season to a knee injury last Saturday in Dallas. Duke Johnson is the number-one running back in Miller’s place. The Texans will kickoff the regular season on September 9th, a Monday night game in New Orleans.

Rangers, Jurado Shut Down Angels

(Anaheim, CA) — Ariel Jurado allowed two hits over six innings in the Rangers’ 3-0 shutout of the Angels in Anaheim. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who was just recalled from the minors, doubled home two runs in the eighth. Jose Leclerc worked a spotless ninth to collect his ninth save to complete the three-hitter. Texas center fielder Delino DeShields robbed Brian Goodwin of a home run with a leaping over-the-fence catch in the third inning. Texas is 2-and-4 in its last six.

Rangers Open Homestand Tonight

Rangers Sending Bubba To AFL

(Surprise, AZ) — The Rangers are sending outfielder Bubba Thompson to play for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League, which starts play next month. He was setback by a broken hamate bone and a strained muscle this year. Right-hander Cole Uvila, a 40th-round pick last year, is also going to the AFL. He has 92 strikeouts in 61 and 2/3 innings this season in Class-A.

Astros Hold Off Rays For Sixth Straight Win

(Houston, TX) — Yuli Gurriel hit a two-run homer, while Alex Bregman had three hits and an RBI as the Astros held on for an 8-6 win over the Rays in Houston.
