Work can begin for an underground water cleanup in Happy, with the help of federal funding.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the money will be used to remove contaminates in the Ogallala Aquifer.

The chemicals in the water stem back to the early 1960s grain storage facility fire that released Carbon Tetrachloride, which can cause liver and kidney damage.

The plan is to pump water out of the aquifer and treat it before injecting it back into the ground.

Several wells, including a city well have been contaminated.
