A traffic stop in Wheeler County nets the Texas Department of Public Safety, more than 12 pounds of suspected fentanyl.

At 8:14 a.m. Thursday,  a DPS trooper stopped a 2014 Chevrolet Impala traveling east on I-40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation. The trooper then discovered multiple plastic-wrapped bundles of the suspected drug in the rear quarter panels.

DPS Criminal Investigation Division Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation.

DPS officials say 26-year-old Jose Martinez-Cisneros of Hollister, Calif., was arrested and booked into the Wheeler County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance.

Officials say the drugs were reportedly being transported from Phoenix, Ariz., to Riley, N.C.
