The Xcel Energy Foundation announced it is awarding $346,000 in grants to 38 nonprofits in the Texas and New Mexico area.

The awarded grants are to recognize the work community groups are doing in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Career Pathways, Environmental Sustainability and Community Vitality areas.

Xcel Energy Foundation says, STEM Career Pathways grants focus on K-12 project-based learning, investigative experiences, training for STEM careers and other learning and mentorship services.

Environmental Sustainability grants focus on disaster preparedness, community green space projects and other environmental education and natural habitat maintenance programs.

Community Vitality grants help to fund case management and support services for underserved communities, the amplification of diverse artists and other programs supporting local economies and business leaders.

The Grants awarded on Friday were funded by the Xcel Energy Foundation focus Area Grant Program, and by the end of the year, they expect to award up to $500 thousand dollars
