47th District Attorney’s Office Add Two Team Members To Fight Forced Labor

Monday the Potter County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a request from the 47th District Attorney’s office to add one more assistant DA and an investigator to staff.

The new staff members will be a part of a team of people who will focus on securing justice for victims of forced labor in the Panhandle, the South Plains and a portion of West Texas.

Funding for the two new positions will come from the Buffett-McCain Institute Initiative to Combat Modern Slavery.

The initiative will bring together the DA’s office and representatives from Family Support Services, who said victims of forced labor can be found in factories, on farms or at construction sites.

The Buffett-McCain Institute Initiative already has partnered with officials in Hidalgo County.
