Aberg power Tech to third place finish at Frederica Cup

SAINT SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Powered by a final round 65 from senior All-American Ludvig Aberg, the No. 6 ranked Texas Tech men’s golf program finished third at the Frederica Cup hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Frederica Golf Club Thursday.

On the back of his final round 65, Aberg finished at -17 overall for the tournament, good for solo third place. The Swede shook off a bogey on number one (the only of his round) to record five birdies on the front nine and three consecutive on the back nine.

As a team, the Red Raiders got strong performances up and down the lineup, as Tech’s top three players combined to shoot -41 as a trio.

After firing an opening round 63 to race out to the 18-hole lead, sophomore Calum Scott recorded a final round 72 to finish at -14 for the event.

South Carolina transfer Jack Wall also finished with three rounds of below par golf, as the senior fired a 71 Thursday to finish at -10 overall.

Memphis transfer Tyran Snyders was the final Red Raider to finish under par for the week, as the South African fired a final round 70 to finish at -4 overall.

Powered by a strong performance in both the second and third rounds, Vanderbilt took home the team title at -69 overall, while senior William Moll took home the team title.

The University of Oklahoma finished at -66 overall finishing second, followed by Tech (-46), Georgia (-44) and Mississippi State (-36).

Ohio State fired a team score of -14 on Thursday to finish fifth, followed by Arkansas (-18) and TCU (+9).

UP NEXT:
The Red Raiders return to action at the end of the month of September for the Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by University of the Toledo. The two-day event starts with 36 holes on Sept. 26 before finishing on Sept. 27.
