Accident East Of Claude Claims A Life, Another Transported To Amarillo

An accident involving two vehicles east of Claude Wednesday evening injured one, claimed the life of another.

According the Texas DPS, Lucy Kim, 54, was traveling eastbound on US 287 in her 2022 Toyota Highlander, when her vehicle was struck by a 2024 Chevy Equinox driven by David Barnes, 44, of Frisco, Texas. 

The DPS report notes Barnes was traveling westbound on US 287 when he drifted into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane. He struck the Highlander, which then rolled, ejecting the passenger, 18-year-old Abigail Kim. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether or not she was wearing a seatbelt.

Lucy Kim was transported to Northwest Texas hospital in Amarillo with serious injuries.

Barnes was not injured.

That crash remains under investigation.
