Accident Involving A Semi And SUV Claims One Life
An accident involving a semi and an SUV has claimed a life on US 287 near Goodnight.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says that a 2002 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 22-year-old Galyean Swayer, of Childress, was traveling east in the outside lane of US 287 when he struck the rear end of a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 58-year-old James Powell of Clarendon.
This caused the SUV to spin out of control clockwise and move into the center median.
The SUV then struck the far slope of the median and spun around once more before coming to a stop.
60-year-old Tojuanna Pierce of Clarendon was thrown from the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene by Donley County Justice of the Peace Pat White.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with severe injuries and remains in stable condition.
This accident is still under investigation.
