The Amarillo Cty Council held a six-hour meeting, on Tuesday to take on the issue of becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn.

There was no vote or discussion on the issue, and both pro and con views voiced their opinions.

Mayor Cole Stanley says the council will take its time in considering the issue, or not going to take up the issue until they’re sure of they have full knowledge of it.

A work session is planned for Tuesday, December 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center, and there will be no public comment Allowed at this session.

One of the points of contention includes the part about helping someone travel to receive an abortion, and there has been some discussion if this will boil down to a Council vote or something bigger.

Mayor Stanley believes that after Tuesday’s session, the Council will have a  better direction, so as not to infringe on anyone’s rights and in line with the way the State of Texas is handling it.
