A new scam alert has Amarillo Police warning residents to beware.

APD says they’ve received reports about someone posing as a police sergeant, threatening immediate arrest if a fine is not paid by phone, in Bitcoin or gift cards.

Amarillo Police say they never ask for payments by phone for outstanding fines.

APD is warning residents to use caution, and if uncertain, hang up and research on their own, or reach out to APD.

If you feel you’ve fallen victim to the scam, report it to APD at (806) 378-3038.
