The Panhandle Auto Burglary and Theft Unit is advising citizens to never leave their vehicles running unattended during the cold weather holiday season.
During this time police see an increase in criminal activity, mainly being theft.
To avoid being a victim here are some helpful tips.
Hide any valuables from plain sight. While out Christmas shopping it is recommended to cover your purchases with a blanket.
Park in a well-light area or attended lots. Thieves often use the cover of darkness to avoid being detected.
Don’t leave personal documents such as bank statements in your car.
The loss of such documents could potentially lead to identity theft.
Always lock your doors. An unlocked vehicle makes easy access for a car burglar checking doors.
