City of Amarillo Unveils Plans for News Civic Center Complex

Officials with the City of Amarillo unveiled plans to expand the current Amarillo Civic Center.

The current civic center currently holds 5,000 seats.

The new arena will be able to hold 10,000 seats and host more events.

The Civic Center brings in a total economic impact of $36 million a year and with the new area it will bring in a proposed $64.4 million to the area.

With the expansion, it will bring in an additional 85 events annually.

The total cost of the project is $319 million and cause property tax to increase $0.151 per $100,000 home evaluation.

Voters will be able to cast their vote in the May 2020 bond election.
