COA Ordinance Change
An ordinance change may be on the way, allowing alcohol to be served within Amarillo’s Route 66 historic district.
As it stands right now, It is illegal to have an open container in public spaces, however, ordinance number 8059, would change the way public spaces would be defined including streets, alleys; sidewalks, and parking lots.
The change would affect private property in the Central Business District because they would be able to sell liquor outside, in a fenced area during a city-approved festival, even if they do not have a TABC license.
Alcohol is prohibited from being served within a fenced area including private property and parking lots but with the change, businesses can serve alcohol on their grounds during festivals.
The new ordinance would become effective May 25th.
