A scam is hitting the Curry County Sheriff’s Office and they’re warning the public about it.

The department says they received many calls from citizens on Monday, that they received calls from people claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office, using different names, and phone numbers.

The scammers were telling the citizens they missed a court date and needed to pay fines via cash kiosks or gift cards, or risk being arrested.

Curry County Sheriff’s officials say they do not request by phone, to be paid through cash kiosks or gift cards.

They’re asking residents to hang up on the caller and call the Sheriff’s Office if they think they’re being scammed at 575-769-2335
