East Amarillo Crash Claims Man’s Life

75-year old Cyrus Fields Of Amarillo was killed in a 2-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on  State Loop (SL) 335, five miles east of Amarillo.  

A 2005 Kenworth tractor trailer rig driven by 62-year old Javier Castillo of Plainview was southbound on Loop 335 and Fields’ 2015 Ford F-150 was northbound. Fields veered over into the northbound lane and struck Castillo head-on.   

After impact, Fields’ truck entered the east side ditch, overturned, caught fire, and became fully engulfed. The Kenworth  came to a final rest upright, blocking the north and southbound lanes. It sustained significant front-end damage. 

Castillo was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fields was pronounced deceased on scene. 

The crash is under investigation.
