With Texas marking the 19th anniversary of the last fatality-free day on our roadways, The Texas Department of Transportation is trying to End The Streak.

In the Amarillo District, the top contributing factors for fatal vehicle crashes were failure to yield right of way and stop sign, failure to control speed, pedestrian failed to yield right of way to vehicle and driving on the wrong side of the road.

TxDOT will dedicate an additional $600 million for more safety improvements along Texas roadways over the next two years. The effort includes widening some roads and adding rumble strips that alert drivers if they are veering out of their lane or off the road. We will also add reinforced shoulders and select turn lanes, and deploy new technology that will increase safety on the entire system of roads.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, eliminate all distractions, use crosswalks, and yield right of ways.
