FDA Panel Endorses Approving J&J COVID Vaccine

An outside panel of experts is endorsing approval of Johnson and Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine. The panel voted unanimously to recommend the FDA approve it for emergency use. The governmental body is expected to do so in the coming days, making it the third vaccine approved to protect Americans from the coronavirus. Both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines were approved earlier. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is a traditional vaccine, unlike both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s messenger-RNA vaccines. It only requires a single dose instead of two and does not need ultra-cold storage. It’s also easier and cheaper to manufacture. It proved 85-percent effective in clinical trials at protecting people from severe sickness that leads to hospitalizations or death.
