Firefights will get the chance to learn new skills this week.

Crews from Texas and Colorado are in Amarillo at the Panhandle Regional Inter Agency Wildland Fire Academy at the Amarillo Civic Center and at fire stations in Potter and Randall Counties.

More than 200 firefighters a mix of volunteer and career are taking between one and ten classes to learn how to become more efficient at battling a wildland fire.

Courses will be centered on communication and personal safety and on high winds, sunlight and dry grass that make for dangerous conditions.

The academy wraps up on Saturday
