Three Interceptions Lift Raiders Past Chargers

(Oakland, CA) — Phillip Rivers threw his third interception of the game in the final seconds as the Raiders held off the Chargers 26-24 on Thursday Night Football in Oakland. Raiders safety Erik Harris had two interceptions, including a 56-yard pick-six in the first quarter to give Oakland an early lead. Rookie Josh Jacobs ran 18 yards for the go-ahead TD with 1:02 to play to put the now 5-and-4 Raiders up for good. Rivers passed for 207 yards and two TD’s, but also took five sacks for the Chargers. Melvin Gordon rushed for 108 yards and a score for LA, which dropped to 4-and-6.

Desmond Bane led the Horned Frogs with 26 points, while Kevin Samuel contributed 17 points and a dozen rebounds. Tonight, number-18 Baylor will play Washington at the Armed Forces Classic in Anchorage and North Texas will be at VCU. Tomorrow, Tulsa will be at UT-Arlington, number-12 Texas Tech will host Bethune-Cookman and Texas will be at Purdue.

Three Astros Win Silver Slugger Awards

(Houston, TX) — Astros George Springer, Alex Bregman and Zack Greinke earned Silver Slugger Awards for the best offensive player at each position. Outfielder Springer hit .292 with 20 doubles, 39 home runs and 96 RBIs. Third baseman Bregman hit .296 with 37 doubles, 41 home runs and 112 RBIs. Greinke, who spent the majority of the season with the Diamondbacks, was the National League pitcher Silver Slugger, batting .272 with three home runs in 24 games.
