Friday Sports Update – Sod Poodles Fall To Midland In Finale

(Amarillo, Texas) – The Sod Poodles couldn’t complete their series sweep of the Midland RockHounds Thursday night as they fell by a score of 16-3 in front of a crowd of 6,270. Taylor Trammell led the Sod Poodles offensively as he crushed a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Amarillo still leads second-place Corpus Christi by 5.5 games in the second half Texas League South Division. The Sod Poodles begin a three-game series with the Frisco RoughRiders tonight at HODGETOWN. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Twins Clobber Rangers

(Arlington, TX) — Willie Calhoun and Hunter Pence homered for the Rangers, but it was nearly enough as they lost 13-6 to the Twins in Arlington. Starter Pedro Payano failed to make it out of the fourth and allowed eight runs, five earned. Delino DeShields and Danny Santana each had two hits and a RBI in the loss. Texas has dropped seven of its last nine.

Rangers Will Go With Minor Tonight

Astros Belt Five Homers, But Lose

(Oakland, CA) — Carlos Correa and Michael Brantley each homered twice, but the Astros lost 7-6 to the Athletics in Oakland. Alex Bregman also belted his 29th home run in defeat. Astros pitchers also gave up five home runs, four off starter Aaron Sanchez. Chris Devenski took the loss. The Astros have dropped four of their last five.

Verlander Will Start Tonight For Houston

Cowboys Land In Hawaii, Plays Rams Tomorrow

(Honolulu, HA) — The Cowboys have arrived in Hawaii, where they will face the Rams tomorrow night at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu in their second preseason game. It is a rematch of last year’s NFC Division Round contest that the Rams won. Texans Preparing For Lions

(Houston, TX) — The Texans and Lions concluded their second and final day of their joint full-pad practices. The Houston starters got about 80 reps during the two days. Second-year wide receiver DeAndre Carter made several impressive catches less than one week after coming off the physically unable to perform list. The two teams will meet in a preseason game tomorrow night at NRG Stadium.

NASCAR Driver Earnhardt Jr., Wife OK After Plane Crash

(Elizabethton, TN) — NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his family are safe after surviving a fiery plane crash in East Tennessee. Elizabethton Fire Chief Barry Carrier says everyone on board was very lucky to have escaped virtually unscathed when their plane rolled off the end of the runway yesterday afternoon. He said the plane burst into flames immediately after it came off the runway. Carrier says things could’ve been much worse and that they could’ve found themselves trapped inside the burning plane.

FC Dallas, Montreal Play Tomorrow Night

(Montreal, Quebec) — FC Dallas is going from California to Canada. After being shutout 2-0 on Wednesday at the LA Galaxy, Dallas will play tomorrow night at the Montreal Impact. Dallas is eighth in the MLS West with 37 points, one behind Portland for the final playoff berth.
