Friday Sports Update – Sod Poodles Lose 2nd Playoff Game
(Amarillo, Texas) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles dropped game two of the Texas League South Division Championship Series by a final score of 4-1 in front of 5,465 at HODGETOWN and fall 0-2 in the best-of-five series. Edward Olivares led the Sod Poodles offensively, plating Amarillo’s only run of the night with his solo home run. Amarillo must win three straight games in Midland to win the Texas League South Division Championship Series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Rangers Turn Back Orioles
(Baltimore, MD) — Rookie Kolby Allard allowed one run while pitching into the seventh in the Rangers’ 3-1 triumph over the Orioles in Baltimore. The 22-year-old left-hander is 4-and-0 in six starts for the Rangers since being acquired in a trade with Atlanta. Nick Solak hit a two-run homer and scored an insurance run in the ninth on a Logan Forsythe single. José Leclerc closed it out for his 10th save as the Rangers won for the fourth time in seven games.

Astros Best Mariners In 13-Inning Slugfest
(Houston, TX) — Michael Brantley belted a two-run homer with one out in the 13th inning as the Astros walked off the Mariners 11-9 in Houston. The Astros rallied from a seven-run deficit to win for the 10th time in 13 games. Kyle Tucker and Josh Reddick also went deep for the Astros. Josh James, the eighth Houston pitcher, picked up the win and is 5-and-0. Starter Wade Miley did not retire any of the six batters he faced and five scored.

Cowboys Will Open Season Sunday
(Arlington, TX) — The Cowboys will kickoff their season on Sunday against the NFC East-rival New York Giants at AT&T Stadium. While Ezekiel Elliott will be in the Dallas backfield, other faces might be missing. Safeties Darian Thompson and Donovan Wilson and linebacker Luke Gifford did not practice for the second straight day because of ankle injuries. Starting right guard Zack Martin remained a limited participant with a back issue.
Cowboys Display ‘Zeke Who’ Shirts
(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys unveiled t-shirts with “Zeke Who?” on the front and “That’s Who” on the back in a media conference with owner Jerry Jones and Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott, who signed an eight-year contract extension for more than 100-million dollars the previous day. During Elliott’s holdout, Jones commented “Zeke Who” after rookie Tony Pollard shined in preseason games. Jones was at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell on Wednesday when Elliott’s contract was finalized with 50-million dollars guaranteed. The shirts will be sold online with proceeds going to the Salvation Army.
Texans Preparing For Saints
(Houston, TX) — The Texans, who did a major roster overhaul, are preparing for their season opener against the Saints on Monday night in New Orleans. Eight players on the Houston roster were with a different NFL team a week ago. The Texans won the AFC South last year with an 11-and-4 record, but lost to the Colts in the first-round of the playoffs. Deshaun Watson passed for more than 4,000-yards, but was sacked 62 times last season. The Texans addressed that by acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a trade with the Dolphins.
Packers Hold Off Bears In Season Opener
(Chicago, IL) — The defense ruled in the season opener as the Packers beat the Bears 10-3 in Chicago. An interception in the end zone by Adrian Amos with 1:58 left helped Green Bay hang on. Aaron Rodgers hit Jimmy Graham for the only touchdown in the second quarter.
Serena Into U.S. Open Women’s Final
(Flushing Meadows, NY) — Serena Williams is a win away from a seventh U.S. Open title. She beat Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals. A win tomorrow against Canada’s Bianca Andreescu would match Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles with 24.
FC Dallas Will Host Chicago Next
(Frisco, TX) — FC Dallas is off until September 14th when it will host the Chicago Fire at Toyota Stadium. Dallas has climbed into the MLS West sixth slot with 43 points, tied with Real Salt Lake. The top seven qualify for the playoffs.
Wings Wrapping Up Season
(Washington, DC) — The Wings will play the Mystics tonight in Washington in their penultimate game. Dallas will end the season at home Sunday against the Seattle Storm. The Wings are last in the WNBA West with a 10-and-22 record and have lost 14-of-16 away games.
Stars Open Training Camp Next Week
(Frisco, TX) — The Stars will bring 63 players to training camp, which begins a week from today. Dallas-native Stefan Noessen, who played the last three seasons with the New Jersey Devils, is among those invited. Practices will be open to the public at the Comerica Center in Frisco. The first preseason game will be September 16th against defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis at American Airlines Center.
