Sheriff Nathan Lewis of Hemphill County submitted a letter of resignation Tuesday.

County Judge George Briant said Lewis submitted his resignation shortly before five Tuesday evening and it is effective on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

The Hemphill County Commissioners’ Court will appoint a replacement by the end of this week.

Lewis has been involved in the case of once missing Canadian teenager Thomas Brown and was recently reprimanded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for the false documentation of training hours.

No reason has been confirmed for his resignation.
