According to a provided press release, Hereford police have arrested a man identified as 30-year-old Joel Gaytan in connection to active shooting threats made to multiple schools and businesses Thursday.

The calls caused those schools and businesses to go into lockdown.

After failing to contact Gaytan by phone, Hereford police located him at his home on Union Avenue near Floss Street where his family confirmed he was and threatening to harm himself.

Efforts by HPD, Deaf Smith County Sheriff’s Office, DPS and Texas Rangers, failed to lure Gaytan from the home, forcing authorities to enter at which point he was taken into custody.

That investigation continues and appropriate charges are to be determined.
