High Speed Chase in Sherman County

Two people are in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase on Monday night.

At 9:00 p.m. an officer with the Stratford Police Department stopped a blue Mazda SUV for displaying expired license plates.

When the officer approached the vehicle the driver sped off.

The chase ensued onto US Highway 287 south of Stratford.

Ten miles south of town the driver of the SUV left the roadway and vaulted onto the railroad tracks.

Both the driver and passenger attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by Sherman County Deputies.

Sherman County Dispatch made contact with the railroad but a train hit the car knocking it off the tracks.

The driver and passenger were both booked into the Sherman County Jail and there were no injuries.
