Idris Elba is about to add a brand new feather to his cap after signing a multi-book deal with HarperCollins. The Luther alum is about to become an official children’s book author.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Elba, 48, has teamed with writing partner Robyn Charteris to bring a series of picture and chapter books to life.
Fans of the British actor can get their hands on his first book in 2022.
When asked by THR about the book deal, said Elba, “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring stories inspired by my daughter to life with my incredible partner Robyn Charteris, and the powerhouse team at HarperCollins.”
The book deal includes both U.K. and U.S. audiences and the rights have since been acquired by Ann-Janine Murtagh, who expressed her excitement over the deal.
“Idris Elba is one of the most iconic and multi-talented creatives of his generation,” she praised. “From the outset, Idris had a very clear vision of the characters and stories he has imagined, and is passionate about creating books that will appeal to all children.”
As for Elba’s writing partner, Charteris has solid experience developing children’s content, as she is a BAFTA-winning writer behind the television series CBeebies and also penned four episodes of the beloved Thomas & Friends series.
