Kobe Bryant Rookie Card Sells For $1.8 Million

The booming sports card market doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Over the weekend, a Kob Bryant rookie card sold for a whopping $1.8 million – the highest price tag ever for a basketball card.

The card has the catchy name of “1996-97 Topps Chrome Refractors #138 Kobe Bryant Rookie Card — BGS PRISTINE/Black Label 10”.

It’s one of just two in existence. Kobe Bryant cards have surged in value by more than 600% since the star’s death in January of 2020.

This particular card was sold for just $58,000 back in 2016.

Why are sports cards suddenly so valuable?  Did you ever collect sports cards growing up?
