License Plate Readers are being installed around Amarillo by the Police Department..
The South and Eastern quadrants of town are seeing forty of the devices being put in.
The L.P.Rs are cameras that can read a plate as it drives down the road.
The system can cross-check databases and send alerts to the officer saying a car or person is wanted.
APD has addressed concerns from the public by updating its policy.
Officers will now have to fill out a form before searching the database, and Phase One of installing LPRs assisted in 218 cases, 66 arrests and 84 recovered stolen vehicles.
