One man is dead after an early morning accident involving a semi.
At 12:39 a.m., Amarillo Police officers were called to the area of Dumas Highway and Cherry Avenue on a report of a person being hit by a semi and killed after his car had broken down.
A witness told officers his friend’s car had broken down on the side of the road, he then met with the victim at the scene to help retrieve property from the car.
The witness said it was dark and he was concerned about being out late due to the danger on the highway while his friend was retrieving items from the car, he was hit by a semi that left the accident area.
The man, identified as 57-year-old Allen Gonzales, was pronounced dead and the Traffic Investigation Unit is working on the case.
