Eight people have been taken into custody as part of the Justice Department’s ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ which partners with local and state agencies to reduce crime.

The eight are now facing charges of illegally modifying guns and drug trafficking across the South Plains, prompting the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas to seek charges of felon possession of a gun, and fentanyl trafficking.

The multi-agency operation targeted repeat offenders illegally possessing guns.

Two of the eight taken into custody are Kelly Hargrave and Philip Murphy who have been charged with three counts of drug possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine.

All of the eight defendants made their initial appearances in federal court Wednesday. The Justice Department anticipates making more arrests in this operation.
