A Pampa man is now behind bars in New Mexico charged with trafficking a controlled substance.

Friday at  6:30 p.m. The New Mexico State Police were conducting an ENDWI Sobriety Checkpoint on US Highway 54 when a grey 2017 Ford Taurus, driven by 40-year-old Edward Briley of Pampa, entered the area of operation.

Briley did not have a driver’s license and, had a felony armed and dangerous warrant for a probation violation in Texas.

In Briley’s vehicle, officers found 21 pounds of methamphetamine.

Briley was charged with trafficking a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a first-degree felony, and for the outstanding warrant.

He was booked into the Guadalupe County jail.

The New Mexico State Police continue to investigate the case.
