Peyton Parsons earns first goal as a Red Raider as Texas Tech hammers Houston

LUBBOCK, Texas – Powered by a balanced offensive effort, Texas Tech downed incoming conference rival Houston, 3-0, Thursday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

Freshman Peyton Parsons kickstarted the scoring affair for Texas Tech (2-2-3) in the 27th minute when Gisselle Kozarski’s shot was blocked by a Cougar and fell directly at the feet of Parsons. The midfielder fired off a shot on first touch that pushed past the Houston goalkeeper and gave Tech an early 1-0 lead.

“It was a great crowd, and the girls came in with a ton of energy,” head coach Tom Stone said. “We looked kind of like we have all season – sharp on the ball, good defense and created good chances. When Peyton Parsons scored, it was a massive relief. You’re always excited when you score, but when you have been having trouble in front of the goal, it was a good one. To have a freshman do it was even cooler.”

Just 55 seconds later, Kylie Bahr fed Macy Schultz a long pass that Schultz was able to turn around and chip in over the goalie’s head – good for her second goal of the season.

Tech’s defense held Houston (2-3-1) shotless throughout the opening 45 minutes to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead at the break.

Houston’s best look of the night came in the 74th minute when Madison Dichiara took a shot off a corner kick that Tech keeper Madison White punched away.

Ashleigh Williams sealed the deal in the 80th minute when she worked around the Houston keeper, who had come out of the goal, and put away her second goal of the season.

White earned her fourth shutout while making one save.
