A Randall County High School student is under arrest after trying to take a police officers gun from him.

The incident happened at 2;00 p.m. Tuesday after a school liaison officer at the school detained a student on a vandalism investigation.

Police say the student became belligerent, attacked the officer, and tried to take the firearm.

He was eventually subdued after police and other school staff intervened.

The student is facing two counts of assault on a public servant and attempting to take a weapon from a police officer.

He was booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries and released.
