A hacker attack linked to Russia has targeted Muleshoe.

In January, the hackers caused a water tank in Muleshoe to overflow for about 45 minutes, according to United States Cybersecurity Firm Mandiant. The City of Muleshoe took the machine offline and switched to manual operation.

Two other West Texas communities noticed suspicious activity taking place at the same time as the Muleshoe attack.

None of the affected towns saw an effect on any of their drinking water.

Muleshoe City Manager Ramon Sanchez stated the city has replaced the system that was hacked.

The group claiming responsibility is linked to Russia Military Intelligence Agency, and if

confirmed, this would mark an escalation of Russia targeting critical infrastructure in the United States.

The FBI IS doing an investigation on all three towns.
