The City of Amarillo and the San Jacinto Neighborhood Association have put together a program that has given five homeowners new sidewalks.
The program began as a way to update deteriorated sidewalks caused by tree roots and years of damage.
The five sidewalks were selected as a part of the Sidewalk Repair Program.and are not at the homeowners’ expense.
The sidewalks are in the San Jacinto area from South Carolina Street to Northwest 3rd Avenue.
The goal is to increase neighbor-to-neighbor, relations, increase safety, and making it easier to get around the neighborhood.
Amarillo City officials say other neighborhoods will start to see similar projects in the upcoming year, including The Barrio, North Heights, and Eastridge.
