MULESHOE — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be holding a small grains meeting Aug. 28 at Bailey County Electric Cooperative, 610 E. American Blvd., Muleshoe.

The event will begin at noon with registration; cost is $10. A pizza lunch will be served. There will be two general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available.

“We will feature primarily wheat and triticale at the meeting,” said Curtis Preston, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Bailey County. “With most of Bailey County’s winter forage being a dual-purpose crop, we want to help our producers with decisions on whether to harvest for grain, to graze out, or to harvest for silage.”

Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo, is the featured speaker and is slated to discuss:

  • Integrated cover crop mix.
  • Wheat and triticale variety trials for grain and silage.
  • Variety selection.
  • Seed management.
  • Planting management.
