The Smokehouse Creek has now covered 500 thousand acres. Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management says the evacuation has been lifted and residents may return to their homes. Potter County Fire and Rescue will still actively engage the fire, avoid areas with first responders, and allow them room to work.

Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management officials are issuing a mandatory evacuation for residents in the Mesilla Park area of Potter County. This applies to the area of North Eastern between Willow Creek and Cherry Avenue.

Evacuees can now go to the Warford Center.

Hemphill County Emergency Management has declared a mandatory evacuation. Officials are advising people to use US 83 heading south to evacuate. A shelter is set up at the Wheeler AgriLife Building located at 7939 US 83 in Wheeler.

The Wheeler High School auxiliary gymnasium is available for overflow of evacuees as the AgriLife building is filling up quickly.
